80’s Cinema – The Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club was made in 1985 and has since become a cult classic. The movie’s stars were members of the ‘Brat Pack’ which was a name given to the group of actors who were in their early twenties and rose to fame in mid 1980’s teenage and coming of age films. The group included Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Antony Michael Hall and Ally Sheedy who in the film are all part of different high school cliques. Molly Ringwald’s character Claire is the most popular girl in school and her style is preppy and cute.
Claire is often seen in pink clothing and her style represents the 80’s perfectly. To recreate this look, tuck a pink baggy t-shirt or blouse into a vintage skirt and roll up the sleeves. The skirt is mid length and in a brown fabric which matches the boots. Accessories are minimal apart from a pair of pearl stud earrings. Ally Sheedy plays Allison who is the opposite of Claire and is regarded as the ‘weird girl’. In the film she is wearing a long black cardigan, a midi skirt and a scarf.
A vintage cardigan is a great way to get this look and layering is key with this outfit. Bender is a great character to replicate as it is so simple but makes a big impact. A pair of vintage jeans, a red checked shirt and a light denim jacket are all you need. Roll up the sleeves on the shirt or wear them cut off to get an authentic 80’s look. These three styles can be took from summer to winter and day to night just by mixing up your accessories and changing your outerwear.
